Upcoming Events Aspiring Leaders Forum - 22-25th July The Aspiring Leaders' Forum is an annual four day event that brings together the brightest, most committed and courageous young leaders from across all sectors and towns in New Zealand. Each year thousands of young New Zealanders grapple with the task of answering some of the fundamental questions of life. Which direction should I take? What will I do with my life? What is my purpose? It is this stage of life that is one of the most important – these young New Zealanders are in the process of determining their direction, they have begun to develop a critical-thinking approach to life, they are defining goals and aspirations and yet their ideals are still intact. One day these young people will lead our nation. Their view of leadership and what it means to lead is therefore of critical importance to New Zealand's future. The Aspiring Leaders' Forum on faith and values attempts to bridge the growing divide between our nation's young people and its leaders as they come together in Wellington to debate and discuss the ideas and philosophies of leadership. While Members of Parliament will host the Forum, the focus is not purely politics: it is about encouraging young people to be better leaders in the areas of society they are engaged in, be it the arts, business, politics or sport. There are always more followers than leaders, yet one leader can affect the lives of millions. Our hope is that the Forum will build a bridge from one generation to the next, inspiring and elevating our young people's expectations of leadership. For More Information Go To: www.aspiringleaders.org.nz Past Events Baroness Caroline Cox of Queensbury - A champion of human rights For the Sake of Our Children Trust was pleased to host a dinner event for visiting speaker Baroness Caroline Cox held at Florence Court last month. Guests included our Trustees, friends of the Trust : Michael and Kim Barnett of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Tim Sisarich of Focus on the Family, Rachel Langton of Maxim Institute, Emeline Afeaki-Mafileo of Affirming Works and elected National MPs Dr. Paul Hutchinson and Sam Lotu-Iinga. The night was a wonderful evening where stories of passion for the community and the nations were shared. Baroness Caroline Cox is a crossbencher peer from the British House of Lords. She is known for her active involvement in humanitarian aid and human rights, as well as for her interest and work in slavery and education. Baroness Cox was Founding Chancellor of Bournemouth University and is currently Chancellor of Liverpool Hope University, and Chief Executive of Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust (HART). Beach Haven Community Gap Home Opening The Trust is pleased to be partnering with Church Army and the Beach Haven Anglican Church to support it's leadership GAP home. Called the "Elliot-Bateman Discipleship Home" it is dedicated to local leaders who are making great progress in their community. Family First Forum '08 The Trust were pleased to sponsor and support the 2008 Family First Forum held last year at the Life Convention Centre. The CEO at the time, Christine Rankin, gave a brilliant speech calling politicial leaders and Christian believers to take responsibility for children in our nation who are being violently abused and/or neglected. Aspiring Leaders Forum 08 Community Leaders Retreat 08 The Retreat was an opportunity to encourage and refresh our community leaders. 30 community leaders attended the 3 day event and were able to share their personal stories and what it means to aspire to make a positive difference in their respective communities. The Trust will continue to support local community leaders in 2009. Christmas Celebration 08 Thank you to all our friends and supporters who attended our festive cheer celebrations. The turnout out was fantastic considering the short-notice but guests came from Rotorua, Christchurch and even as far as Gore! The event was an evening where friends of the Trust were able to celebrate the year been highlighting some interesting moments throughout the year. We at the Trust look forward to what 2009 brings.
